Sarah Mitchell serves as the Managing Partner of Dr. Ted Injury Law, where she oversees the firm's day-to-day operations while maintaining an active litigation practice focused on medical malpractice and nursing home abuse cases. With more than 25 years of legal experience, Sarah has established herself as one of the leading medical negligence attorneys in the Carolinas and Georgia. Sarah's path to law was deeply personal. Growing up in a family of healthcare workers in Davidson, North Carolina, she witnessed firsthand the dedication and care that most medical professionals bring to their work. But she also saw what happens when the system fails patients. After a close family member suffered serious complications from a preventable surgical error, Sarah decided to dedicate her career to holding negligent healthcare providers accountable. After graduating summa cum laude from Davidson College with a degree in Political Science, Sarah attended the University of Virginia School of Law, where she served as an editor of the Virginia Law Review and graduated in the top 10 percent of her class. Following law school, she clerked for the Honorable James P. Whitmore on the North Carolina Court of Appeals before joining Dr. Ted Injury Law in 2001. Over the past two decades, Sarah has recovered more than $150 million for victims of medical negligence and nursing home abuse. Her notable cases include an $8.3 million verdict against a Raleigh hospital for a botched surgical procedure that left a young mother permanently disabled, a $5.7 million settlement for the family of an elderly nursing home resident who died from neglect, and a $4.9 million recovery for a family whose newborn suffered a preventable brain injury during delivery. Sarah is known for her meticulous preparation and compassionate client relationships. She works closely with medical experts across the country to analyze complex cases and often spends hundreds of hours preparing a single case for trial. Her clients frequently comment on her ability to explain complicated medical and legal concepts in clear, understandable terms, and her genuine empathy for the challenges they face. Sarah's legal achievements have earned her widespread recognition. She has been named to the North Carolina Super Lawyers list every year since 2008, was selected as one of Business North Carolina's Legal Elite, and is a member of the American Association for Justice. She has been recognized by the National Trial Lawyers as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in North Carolina and has received the Client Champion Platinum Award from Martindale-Hubbell for three consecutive years. Outside of the courtroom, Sarah is passionate about patient safety advocacy. She serves on the advisory board of the North Carolina Patient Safety Organization and has testified before the North Carolina General Assembly on legislation aimed at improving nursing home care standards. She is also a frequent speaker at medical malpractice continuing legal education seminars throughout the Southeast. Sarah is actively involved in her community, serving as a board member for the Junior League of Charlotte and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. She coaches her daughter's travel soccer team and is an avid runner who has completed six marathons, including the Boston Marathon. Sarah and her husband, Michael, a pediatric surgeon at Atrium Health, live in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte with their two daughters. When she's not working or running, Sarah enjoys gardening, cooking Southern cuisine, and spending weekends at the family's lake house on Lake Norman.
