Marcus Washington is an Associate Attorney at Dr. Ted Injury Law, where he focuses on motor vehicle accident cases, including car accidents, motorcycle collisions, and pedestrian injuries. Since joining the firm in 2016, Marcus has quickly established himself as a tenacious advocate for injured clients and a rising star in the Charlotte legal community. Marcus grew up in the West Charlotte community, where he was raised by his grandmother after losing both parents in a car accident when he was seven years old. That personal tragedy gave Marcus a firsthand understanding of the devastating impact that a serious accident can have on a family, and it fuels his passion for helping others who find themselves in similar situations. Despite the challenges of his childhood, Marcus excelled academically. He earned a full scholarship to Morehouse College in Atlanta, where he studied English literature and was president of the pre-law society. He then returned to North Carolina to attend North Carolina Central University School of Law, one of the nation's historically Black law schools, where he graduated cum laude and received the Dean's Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy. During law school, Marcus participated in the school's acclaimed trial advocacy program and won the regional mock trial competition as lead advocate. He also interned at the Mecklenburg County Public Defender's Office, where he gained valuable courtroom experience handling preliminary hearings and misdemeanor trials. Since joining Dr. Ted Injury Law, Marcus has handled hundreds of motor vehicle accident cases and has recovered more than $35 million for his clients. While many of his cases involve negotiating fair settlements with insurance companies, Marcus is never afraid to take a case to trial when the insurance company refuses to offer just compensation. His trial record includes a $1.8 million jury verdict for a motorcyclist struck by an uninsured driver, a $1.2 million verdict for a pedestrian hit in a crosswalk by a distracted driver, and a $950,000 recovery in an underinsured motorist case where the insurance company initially offered only $50,000. Marcus is particularly skilled at handling insurance bad faith claims. He understands the tactics that insurance companies use to delay, undervalue, and deny legitimate claims, and he knows how to fight back effectively. He has successfully brought bad faith claims against several major insurance carriers, resulting in recoveries that far exceeded the original policy limits. Colleagues and clients alike praise Marcus for his work ethic, his approachability, and his genuine concern for the people he represents. He makes himself available to clients around the clock and is known for returning phone calls the same day. He believes that good communication is essential to good legal representation, and he keeps his clients informed about every development in their cases. Marcus is deeply committed to giving back to the community that raised him. He serves as a mentor through the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Council and volunteers regularly with the West Charlotte Community Development Corporation. He also teaches a street law course at his former high school, introducing students to the legal system and encouraging them to pursue careers in law. Marcus lives in the NoDa neighborhood of Charlotte, where he enjoys playing pickup basketball, attending live music shows, reading fiction, and volunteering at the Second Harvest Food Bank.
