Emily Thompson is an Associate Attorney at Dr. Ted Injury Law, where she focuses on premises liability, workplace injury, and workers' compensation cases across South Carolina and Georgia. Based in the firm's Greenville, South Carolina office, Emily serves clients throughout the Upstate region and is known for her thorough preparation and compassionate client service. Emily grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in a family that valued education and community service. Her father was a firefighter and her mother was a public school teacher, and from them Emily learned the importance of helping others and standing up for what is right. She saw her father respond to countless accident scenes and workplace emergencies throughout her childhood, experiences that gave her an early appreciation for the human cost of negligence and unsafe conditions. Emily attended Furman University in Greenville on an academic scholarship, where she double-majored in Psychology and Political Science and graduated summa cum laude. Her background in psychology has proven invaluable in her legal career, giving her insight into the emotional and psychological impact that injuries have on victims and their families. After Furman, she attended the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, where she was a member of the Georgia Law Review and graduated in the top 15 percent of her class. During law school, Emily gained practical experience through an externship with the Georgia Department of Law's Consumer Protection Division and a summer associate position at a prominent Atlanta personal injury firm. After passing both the South Carolina and Georgia bar exams, she joined Dr. Ted Injury Law in 2018 to be closer to her family in the Upstate and to serve a community she knows and loves. Since joining the firm, Emily has handled more than 200 premises liability and workplace injury cases and has recovered over $25 million for her clients. Her significant results include a $2.1 million settlement for a warehouse worker who fell through a defective elevated platform, a $1.7 million recovery for a shopper who suffered a traumatic brain injury after slipping on an unmarked wet floor at a grocery store, and a $1.3 million settlement for a child who was severely bitten by a neighbor's dog that had a history of aggression. Emily is particularly passionate about workers' compensation cases because she has seen how workplace injuries can upend the lives of hardworking people who are simply trying to provide for their families. She fights to ensure that injured workers receive not only the medical treatment they need but also fair compensation for lost wages, disability, and pain and suffering. Her approach to each case begins with a comprehensive investigation. For premises liability cases, she works with engineers and safety experts to document hazardous conditions and establish that the property owner knew or should have known about the danger. For workplace injury cases, she examines OSHA records, safety protocols, and training documentation to identify negligence. Emily has been named a South Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Star since 2021 and is a member of the South Carolina Association for Justice, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Association for Justice. She has authored articles for the South Carolina Lawyer magazine on topics related to premises liability and has spoken at local bar association events about emerging trends in workplace injury litigation. Emily is an active volunteer in the Greenville community. She serves on the board of the Greenville County Animal Care Foundation, reflecting her love of animals, and volunteers with the United Way of Greenville County. She is also a Big Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate. Emily lives in the downtown Greenville area with her golden retriever, Scout. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking along the trails at Paris Mountain State Park, kayaking on Lake Jocassee, cooking, and attending performances at the Peace Center.
